SAIPAN - TOKYO FLIGHTS

Northwest Airlines starts new Saipan-Tokyo flight

BY OUR AVIATION CORRESPONDENT
May 31, 2006

Northwest Airlines' second flight from Tokyo arrived in Saipan as scheduled. Northwest Airlines used a Boeing 757 for the flight. the flight landed at the Saipan International airport at 1.25am on April 25, said Richard A. Parsons, Northwest Guam and Saipan manager. It had its flight to Narita International airport at 5.20am on the same day.

The number of passengers in the flight to Saipan are not known. The new service between Narita and Saipan will fly three times a week. The flight will accommodate 400 economy and 30 business class travellers.

"More passengers are coming during that week. We certainly welcome more passengers. It's nice that they are coming daily. Our hope is for them to fly daily at all times," said Reno Celis, Commonwealth Ports Authority acting executive director. A recent survey had indicated that almost 43,000 Japanese tourists would be travelling to Saipan and Guam on the weekend.

Northwest Airlines is now operating on the Osaka - Saipan route, which was introduced last year. Northwest Airlines is the world's fifth largest airline. Northwest and its travel partners serve more than 900 cities in more than 160 countries on six continents
