RAK sacks CEO over launch delays
BY OUR AVIATION CORRESPONDENT
March 1, 2007:
Launch delays has led to the
replacement of RAK Airways chief
executive. Jack Romero, who joined the
new Ras Al Khaimah company in May
last, has been asked to quit following
several delays to its start of
commercial flights.
The airline had scheduled he launch of
operations in January, but now it has
been put off till April. With plans
not taking shape as expected , Romero
was shown the door, said a report
quoting RAK Airways managing director
Khater Massaad.
The sacking followed the hiring of
Kishu Tekchandani to replace Romero,
said a report. The Indian businessman
is reported to be having long-standing
ties to the aviation sector as well as
more recent ties to Ras Al Khaimah.
Tekchandani who had earlier worked in
airport management and operations for
the International Airports Authority
of India, was one of its directors
too. He had also charted out a
feasibility study for the development
of Ras Al Khaimah's aviation industry
back in 2005.
With Jack Romero having been shown the
door, addressing the launch delays
would be a priority area for RAK and
Tekchandani now. RAK Air had only
recently got its airline operator's
license from the UAE government, and
has yet to procure its second
airplane.
