Fly veg, on MDLR

Vegetarian airline MDLR commences operations.

3 May, 2007: All-vegetarian carrier MDLR Airlines has kickstarted its commercial operations with flights on the Delhi-Chandigarh route on a 70-seater Avro RJ aircraft. The airline is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the MDLR Group, which has business interests in infrastructure, shopping malls, multiplexes and luxury hotels.

The Gurgaon-based MDLR Airlines has put up a ticket price of Rs1,000 on the route. It also plans to extend its sevices to Ranchi and Kolkata in the next 15-20 days and later to Mumbai, Surat, Jaipur and Bhavnagar, said a report.

The luxurious four engine Avro RJ 70 jets from MDLR with elaborate all-vegetarian cuisine comes as a welcome addition to the cowded airline sector in the country. There are reports that the MDLR will mostly cater to the religious tourist and that the services would soon be extended to places of pilgrimage. The airline firm is also planning launches at different non-metro capitals and is in the process of introducing city lounge check-in facility at Delhi, Gurgaon and Chandigarh.

Claiming to house the most experienced professionals from the industry, MDLR is gearing up to pose a mega challenge to Indian, Alliance Airways, Air Sahara and Air Deccan that operate flights from Ranchi to Delhi and Kolkata besides Bhubaneshwar and Mumbai, said a report.
