Lufthansa to start new daily non-stop flights to Denver, Detroit

Lufthansa adds Munich Denver flight to summer destinations.

Lufthansa is to commence new daily non-stop flights to Denver and Detroit from next summer, widening its services to the USA. The carrier intends to fly non-stop services from Munich to Denver, making it the tenth North American destination to be served from its hub in Southern Germany.

"The increase in our services to Denver and Detroit will enable us to offer our customers two flights a day, at different times, to these popular destinations," said Lufthansa German Airlines director Holger Hätty.

By linking its destinations in North America to both Frankfurt and Munich hubs, Lufthansa can fly on 29 routes and 19 destinations in US and Canada. This will make the carrier the largest route network operator from Europe to North America.

Flights to Denver will be operated daily from Munich and Frankfurt, starting March 31, 2007.

From Denver, Lufthansa passengers can fly to about 100 destinations throughout North America. Munich-Denver is the latest route to be included in the summer timetable for 2007. This follows Lufthansa's recent decision to launch services to Seoul and Busan in South Korea from its southern hub.

Including the new Busan services, the Lufthansa flight schedule now comprises 10 weekly flights from Germany to South Korea. The German airline will be offering most direct flights to South Korea among all European carriers while it is the only one to service two destinations in this Asian country from Europe. Tickets to flights to Busan start at 806 euros including taxes.

Lufthansa will add a second daily flight on its Frankfurt-Detroit route from March 25, 2007. This is intended to give passengers greater choice and flexibility.

The departure and arrival of the new service will complement the existing flight to Detroit and provide convenient, time-saving connections for business travellers.

From next summer, passengers will be able to fly to Detroit, arriving at 13:25 hours, and fly back to Frankfurt the same day at 21:55 hours. An Airbus A330-300, with a three-class configuration, will service this route.

Round-trip fares from Munich to Denver start at 659 euros, while the fare from Frankfurt to Detroit begins 571 euros for economy class passengers. These include taxes and charges plus the Lufthansa Ticket Service Charge of 15 euros for flights booked online at www.lufthansa.com.

Deutsche Lufthansa AG is the largest German airline, and the second-largest in Europe (behind Air France-KLM, but before British Airways). The name of the company is derived from Luft (the German word for "air"), and Hansa (after Hanseatic League, the powerful medieval trading group).

The carrier is based in Cologne and its main base and primary traffic hub is at Frankfurt International Airport. The Lufthansa Group operates over 400 aircraft and employs nearly 100,000 people worldwide. In 2005, it flew 51.3 million passengers.
