Kingfisher Airlines interlinks
southern coast
14 October, 2007:
The country’s fastest growing
airline, Kingfisher Airlines, has kick
started daily direct flights from
Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram and
Kozhikode, and from Kozhikode to
Mangalore and Goa.
The new services has in fact helped
Kingfisher Airlines to take its number
of flights to 200 a day, connecting 32
cities. Kingfisher Airlines has
introduced
the new services as a step towards
enhancing flight opportunities to its
clients. A report added that this will
be the first of its kind of flight
that hugs all the five airports on the
entire Malabar Coast up to Konkan, and
provides quick connectivity between
all stations.
Meanwhile, the airline major is
expected to team up with Air Deccan
and Abu Dhabi-based Gulf Aircraft
Maintenance (Gamco) in order to set up
a maintenance, repair, and overhauling
(MRO) facility. The preferred location
is being rumored to be Bangalore. The
collaboration is expected to boost the
current technical relationship that
the two Indian majors have with Gamco
for the maintenance of their Airbus
aircraft. The MRO facility may likely
be established at a cost of between Rs
200 and 400 crore, said a report.
Kingfisher Airlines, along with Deccan,
had earlier been reported as having
discussions with local outfit Jupiter
Aviation for the setting up of a $100
million MRO facility in Bangalore but
the plans did not materialize.
Kingfisher has been in the news for
its joint marketing initiative with
Corporate Card issuer American Express
following the launch of the first
airline corporate charge card
specifically targeted at the small to
medium sized enterprise (SME) market
in India. The Amex Kingfisher Airlines
Corporate Card offers local companies
an 8-per cent rebate on Kingfisher
Airlines air travel which is charged
to the card and will also offer card
holders an exclusive membership
upgrade within the Kingfisher Airlines
frequent flyer program, King Club.
