Fly540 says fly low cost when the roads are bad

27 July, 2007:

What do you do if the roads are bad? Fly a budget carrier. People in Western Kenya are doing exactly that. Budget carrier Fly540 has adhered to requests from potential passengers, affected by the poor state of roads in Western Kenya, by launching thrice-weekly flights between Nairobi and Eldoret.

A report said that Fly540 has begun operations to Eldoret via Kisumu on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Return fares begin with a pay-and-go starter fare of $113 exclusive of taxes. It is being said that the Nairobi-Eldoret services will save passengers time and the expense of a tedious road journey and the likelihood of damage to their vehicles.

The report added that customers flying between Eldoret and Kisumu stand to gain as the flights will carry passengers to and from both these destinations at a single fare of $30 and $45 for a return journey.

The Fly540 fleet has been expanded with the addition of the new Dash 8-100 aircraft. This has enabled Fly540 to introduce flights to the Maasai Mara from Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and Mombasa and Malindi. More destinations are expected to be added before the end of the year. The low-cost airline has spread its wings rapidly and now flies from Unit 3 of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Mombasa, Malindi, Lamu, Kisumu and the Masai Mara. Already the total number of passengers carried by Fly540 has passed the 50,000 mark.

Fly540 introduced its first services to Mombasa eight months ago and has quickly become popular with both business and leisure travelers.
