Finn Air sees Mumbai as potential
destination
BY OUR AVIATION CORRESPONDENT
January 23, 2006
Mumbai is on the radar of the
Finnish carrier Finn Air. The airline
which about three months ago launched
operations to India, has said that
Mumbai would be its second destination
in India.
Finn Air’s New Delhi flights would see
an increase in frequency to up to four
times, added reports. Come June, and
the airline is set to start its Mumbai
flights. These services will be served
non-stop from Helsinki five days a
week. And, by mid-May, the current
three-weekly frequency for flights to
the Indian capital will be increased
to daily.
With this, India will be connected
with 12 flights to Finland.
Significantly, Finna Air boasts of
running the shortest route between
India and any EU country, taking
barely six-and-a-half hours.
By adding to its Indian scheduled
traffic just now, Finnair is ensuring
its presence in these fast growing
markets.With the Finnish carrier keen
on expanding its operations in Asia
due to the fact that almost a third of
its revenue is from the region. Its
India operations are seen as very
important.
With launch f the Mumbai services and
addition of frequencies to India, Finn
Air expects a large number of Indian
visitors to Finland and other
Scandinavian countries using Helsinki
as a hub.
