EasyJet Airline has launched its flights to Morocco and Turkey, along with flights to Croatia, even as the London-based low-cost airline is planning to launch services to Istanbul and Marrakesh in this summer. EasyJet is also planning to flights to Rijeka, which would be its third destination in Croatia.
"This is probably our most significant expansion since the start of our new routes to central and eastern Europe in May, 2004. Croatia, Turkey and Morocco are forging a closer relationship with UK and Europe. As a consequence, the demand for low-fares to these countries is growing quickly, and easyJet will be in a unique position to benefit from this development," its Chief executive Andrew Harrison said.
The flight launch move is termed by analysts as an effort by the airline to look beyond its conventional European destinations, spurred by a need to continue growth and improve revenues. With Turkey expected to join the European Union, the airline believes passenger numbers will soar and this launch will help it capitalise on the growth.
Easyjet will start daily flights from Gatwick to Marrakesh on July 4. Daily flights from Luton to Istanbul will start on June 29, with fares starting from 62 pounds for a return flight. Flights to Rijeka will commence form June 30 (also from Luton) with services on every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The ticket fares would be around 52 pounds for a return flight.
Over the last decade, easyJet has begun flights to 18 countries in Europe and expects to carry in the region of 35 million passengers this year.
