Qatar Airways will soon increase the number of flights to Berlin. Qatar Airways is currently operating four flights to Berlin. For the Doha-Berlin-Doha route, Qatar Airways will operate wide-body larger capacity aircraft, said Burkhard Kieker, Berlin Airport Vice-President for Marketing and Corporate Communications.
Qatar Airways is now operating Airbus A319 in the route, which will be replaced by A330. The airline had started operations to Berlin, adding to its services to Munich and Frankfurt.
He also said that Doha-Berlin flights are now operating with a full load-factor and so, the airline needs more frequency and more capacity. There are three airports in Berlin - Schoenfeld, Tegel and Tempelhof. Qatar Airways operates to Tegel airport only.
A new airport which will handle 50 million passengers per year will be set up by 2011. Kieter also said that the new airport will be set up at the Schoenfeld site, while the Tegel and Tempelhof airports would
be shut down.
