Air Deccan ticket bookings at Tamil Nadu post offices

Air Deccan ties up with Indian Post to offer ticket bookings at 247 post offices across Tamil Nadu.

In a bid to extend air ticket bookings to interior areas of India, Air Deccan will now offer flight bookings at post offices across Tamil Nadu. This is part of Air Deccan’s focus on affordable pricing and “any-time-any-where approach” to flight bookings.

“Deccan is at the forefront of taking air travel to the interiors by ensuring that our tickets are within easy reach of the common man. Given that presently only 1% of Indians have access to the internet and even fewer to credit cards, we constantly seek to explore new and scalable ticketing channels. India Post has an unprecedented presence in all parts of the country including the interiors,” Capt. G.R Gopinath Executive Chairman, Air Deccan said.

Leveraging this vast network, Air Deccan will allow flight bookings at 247 internet-enabled post offices in Tamil Nadu. The tie-up with India Post will realize the aspirations of both organizations in terms of reaching out to more consumers and is closely tied with the inexorable growth of air travel in the state.

The Air Deccan-India Post partnership is a unique venture between the 150 year old postal services provider and India’s first low cost airline. The partnership will empower people in different parts of Tamil Nadu, including the hinterlands to take advantage of Deccan’s affordable fares and exhaustive connectivity.

Air Deccan flight bookings in offices of the Tamil Nadu postal circle will be available from April 11, 2008 at 247 internet-enabled post offices. The post
offices are located across Tamil Nadu in cities such as Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy and smaller towns and districts such as Perambalur, Thanjavur, Mannargudi, Neyveli, Vriddachalam, Woraiyur, Dindigul, Coonor, among other areas.

The India Post staff have been intensively trained by Air Deccan to handle all ticketing transactions. Training for the India Post staff was conducted at
Chennai, Trichy, Madurai, Vellur and Coimbatore months in advance in preparation for the launch.
