Air Berlin,Europe's third-largest low-cost airline, has launched flights from Belfast City Airport to seven new destinations in Europe, which would be operated from its hub at London-Stansted.
The Air Berlin flights will start operations from May 2 between Belfast City Airport and Air Berlin's hub at London-Stansted, opening up new European destinations to travellers from Northern Ireland, Air Berlin said in a statement.
Air Berlin will schedule flights departing every morning and evening each way during the week, and one flight each way on Saturday and Sunday. The airline intends to target both business and holiday customers travelling to Europe, even as it banks on its existing low-cost customers.
The flight tickets will be priced at 19 pounds on a one-way route from Belfast to London-Stansted, and 29 pounds to European destinations.
This move will open up Air Berlin's onbound Europe-wide destinations from Stansted for passengers from Northern Ireland. These include Berlin, Dusseldorf, Hanover, Leipzig, Munster/Osnabruck, Nuremberg, Paderborn and Vienna. The service is also likely to make a positive contribution to the tourism industry in Northern Ireland.
