Hilary Duff’s first novel, Elixir, will be published in hardcover and released in October 2010 by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers.

The publisher says Hilary Duff’s Elixir series “combines the overpowering allure of a dangerous love triangle with thrilling international adventure.”

What’s the book all about? The book chronicles the life of Clea Raymond, a young photojournalist who has spent her entire life in the spotlight as the daughter of a Washington politician and a renowned surgeon.

Clea has a problem. A mysterious young man appears in her photographs, and she has no clue who he is. With best friends Rayna and Ben in tow, Clea criss-crosses the world in a race against time to solve a centuries-old mystery that holds the key to finding the identity of her soul mate and the secret of her father’s disappearance.

Simon & Schuster has also secured world rights for a nonfiction title to be written by Hilary Duff and published in Spring 2012. The book will be about the challenges faced by children of divorce, an issue that Hilary is familiar with.

Hilary Duff, who gained fame as Lizzie McGuire, moved on to movies like Cheaper by the Dozen (2003), The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003), and A Cinderella Story (2004). She stepped into the world of pop music with albums like Metamorphosis (2003), Hilary Duff (2004), Most Wanted (2005), and Dignity (2007). In November 2008, she released Best of Hilary Duff, a compilation of her greatest hits.

Engaged to Mike Comrie, Hilary Duff is presently working on Provinces of Night, based on William Gay’s book of the same name. Hilary Duff plays Raven Halfacre, the teenage daughter of a promiscuous, alcoholic mother. The actress has also signed up for a seven-episode arc for Gossip Girl as Olivia Burke, a movie star who joins NYU for a traditional college experience and ends up rooming with Vanessa (Jessica Szohr).

She stars in Beauty and the Briefcase, a romantic comedy based on Diary of a Working Girl to be telecast on ABC. In the television movie, Hilary Duff plays a fashion magazine columnist who writes about her experiences with men and dating issues in the city. Sounds somewhat like Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw?

Hilary Duff, who’s starring in indie feature The Story of Bonnie and Clyde, has also launched clothing lines – Stuff by Hilary Duff and Femme for DKNY Jeans, and two exclusive perfume lines with Elizabeth Arden. Playmates Toys released a celebrity doll of her in 2004, and in 2006, Mattel released a Hilary Duff Barbie doll.

Clearly, she’s been everywhere, done everything. Which is why she wants to try her hand at what other young celebrities are doing as well.

Supermodel Tyra Banks has signed up with Delacorte Press for a three-book series of fantasy books set in the world of modeling. The first book in the series, Modelland, will be released in Summer 2011. The Hills star Lauren ‘Lo’ Bosworth is working on a guide for dating called The Lo-Down. Former The Hills star Whitney Port’s True Whit – stories and advice for young women – will also be released in 2011.
