Shilpa Shetty tired of celebrity
harassment in India
Questioned by immigration
officials while leaving the country
and coming back in.
26 June, 2007
Poor Shilpa! She continues to be at
the receiving end. Even at home.
Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty thinks
that celebrity harassment in India has
touched an all-time high, after she
was stopped at the airport at Mumbai
by immigration officers twice
recently.
“It was so bizarre,” Shilpa Shetty
said of her brief detention while
going to and returning from the
International Indian Film Academy (IIFA)
awards function in the United Kingdom
in June 2007.
She added: “It was perfectly
understandable to see the immigration
officers doing their jobs well. We
patiently showed them the clearance
papers while leaving, but we were
questioned when we returned. How does
it feel to be treated so suspiciously
in your home after being treated like
a queen at an event in a foreign
country? It still hurts.”
Shilpa Shetty laments that she is
being constantly targeted in India.
“Whether it’s an innocuous costume or
an innocent kiss, I’m being hauled up
all the time.”
Shilpa has more complaints: she feels
that Bollywood has never given her
credit for her acting skills. “So many
of my supposedly good performances
like in Dhadkan and Phir
Milenge got no recognition.”
The first time she had ever received
an award was when she was honoured at
the International Indian Film Academy
in Britain with a special award for
her achievements, the winner of the
‘Celebrity Big Brother’ said.
