Prince William, the first son of
Prince Charles, and his girlfriend
Kate Middleton have checked into a
resort in the Paradise Island in
Seychelles under the names Martin and
Rosemary, respectively.
The Sun, the British tabloid, reported
on August 20, 2007, that the lovers
are currently on a week-long break in
the scenic archipelago nation,
consisting of over 100 islands in the
Indian Ocean.
“Prince William and Kate Middleton
thought it would be fun to use joke
names. They are enjoying pretending to
be just an ordinary young couple in
love on a romantic holiday,” The Sun
quoted a source close to the pair as
saying.
Just like Prince Charles, heir to the
British Throne, and Camilla, who once
used Fred and Gladys as pet names, the
fun-loving William and Kate gave their
joke names to the smiling
receptionists at the resort on
Desroches, described as the most
romantic island in the world.
“The discreet staff played along with
the game as they showed the couple to
their beachfront villa,” the unnamed
source said.
Kate, 25, arrived in Seychelles a day
earlier than Prince William, 24, did.
Then they took separate seaplane
flights to the Desroches Island, which
is 6 kilometres long and 1 kilometre
wide and lapped by crystal-clear
turquoise waters sheltered by the
encircling reef.
The two, The Sun said, are staying in
a 500-pounds-a night suite in the
resort in the small island. Their
room, which has a large four-poster
bed, is set in lush tropical
vegetation and overlooks a lagoon.
Kate Middleton was tipped as Prince
William’s future bride before their
four-year relationship ended in the
spring. In July 2007, the couple had
been on a series of tentative dates to
revive their relationship.
Even recently, the two reportedly had
a major row after Kate was ordered by
the Queen and William to pull out of
the dragon-boat race across the
English Channel.
Meanwhile, the Mail newspaper reported
on August 19, 2007, that the plans for
an engagement between Prince William
and Kate were being discussed “in the
highest circles.”
Kate has been given a security pass to
Clarence House in what has been
described as a “clear step” towards
putting her rekindled relationship
with Prince William on an “official
footing” and as a “logistical way of
bringing her into the fold.”
The pass, held by members of the Royal
household, gives access to Clarence
House, the official residence of
Prince William, his younger brother
Prince Harry and their father Prince
Charles. It will allow her to come and
go as she pleases.
