The Vogue cover photo has Michelle Obama dressed in a fuchsia dress, designed by Jason Wu, who came in for a lot of praise for designing Michelle Obama’s white dress that she wore at the Presidential Inaugural ball. In the photo Michelle Obama is seen leaning on a soft beige sofa, with the only accessories being drop earrings and a diamond ring.

For the Vogue cover photo, Michelle Obama has been photographed by the high-profile photographer Annie Leibovitz. The shoot was held at Hay-Adams Hotel in Washington, where the Obama family lived before they moved into the White House on January 20, 2009, after Inauguration Day.

Patrick O’Connell, Vogue spokesperson, has said Vogue has featured most US first ladies, with the exception of Harry Truman’s wife Bess, so far only Hilary Clinton has graced the Vogue cover, in December 1998.

In the interview with Vogue, Michelle Obama has talked mostly about her kids, Sasha, 10, and Maliya Obama, 7. Michelle Obama divulged details about her children’s schooling and how she enjoys dropping them to school.

Michelle Obama also talked about how she wanted to make the White House more accessible to the general public. “We want to make sure that our young people remember and understand what classical music is, who some of the great American artists are. We want entertaining in the White House to feel like America, that we are reminded of all the many facets of our culture. The Latino community, the Asian-American community, the African-American community, hip-hop, spoken word — we want to bring the youth in, for them to hear their voices in this,” she was quoted as saying, in Vogue.

About her love for clothes and personal style, Michelle Obama has been quoted as saying, “I love clothes. First and foremost, I wear what I love. That’s what women have to focus on: what makes them happy and what makes them feel comfortable and beautiful. If I can have any impact, I want women to feel good about themselves and have fun with fashion.”
