CELEBRITY CHEFS

Celebrity chefs intimidating mothers, complains Gordon Ramsey's wife

BY OUR CELEBRITY REPORTER

Try to digest this: The wife of Britain’s best-known chef Gordon Ramsay has trained her guns on celebrity chefs for “frightening” mothers who are forced to turn to readymade meals because of fear of failing to match the standard of TV chefs.

Tana Ramsey has spoken out that mothers resort to readymade meals and avoid approaching food preparation from the scratch because they are “nervous” about presentation, the Daily Mail has quoted her as saying. She told Mail on Sunday’s Summer Health supplement that mothers turn to readymade meals to feed their families rather than preparing home-cooked meals because they fear they cannot match the way TV chefs “whip up culinary masterpieces in the blink of an eye.”

“People reach for something partly prepared or readymade because they are too afraid to tackle it from scratch. Mothers get nervous about presentation. If it doesn’t look perfect, they think they have failed,” complains Tana Ramsey.

Tana, 32, mother of four and an avid advocate of home-coked food, admitted that she did not cook till she had children and that she began with the basics, according to the Daily Mail. She also said there is “no great skill” required to produce healthy, fresh food.

Tana, a Montessori-trained teacher, is mother to Megan, 9, twins Jack and Holly, 7, and Tilly, 5.
While confessing that she refers the books of Nigel Slater, her celebrity chef husband’s rival, Tana Ramsay revealed that that her husband cooks at home very rarely and when he does, their children love it for its “novelty value.”

Says Tana Ramsay: “Though my husband is seldom at home to cook, our children look forward to the rare occasions when he makes their dinner. They love it when Gordon cooks for them because it has novelty value.”

“However,” she adds, “when something special is required, I turn to one of Nigel Slater’s cook books for inspiration. The cookbook I really love is Nigel Slater’s.”

And, despite her husband’s famous disdain of her culinary skills, Tana’s cookbook designed for busy mothers, Tana Ramsay’s Family Kitchen, is a huge success.
