The
divorce of pop star Britney Spears and
Kevin Federline has been finalized,
with the signing of the papers that
legally ended their marriage, at a
Superior Court in Los Angeles.
Though the couple are now officially
divorced, custody arrangements for
their two boys – 22-month-old Sean
Preston and 10-month-old Jayden James
– are yet to finalized.
Britney’s lawyer Laura Wasser said the
two are willing to put their
differences aside for the sake of Sean
Preston and Jayden James.
Laura Wasser added: “The divorce is
final. Britney is okay with the
arrangements. She would like to be
with the kids more. She said that. She
thinks Kevin would like that too.”
Meanwhile, a report has it that
Britney is keen to take Kevin and
their two kids for a holiday in a
resort in Florida, the United States,
which, she perceives as the perfect
opportunity to show Kevin that she is
a good parent.
A source said: “Britney loves Disney
World and thinks it’s the perfect
place for her and Kevin to show the
children they are still a family. They
are sharing custody at the moment, but
Britney would love to get full custody
but needs to win Kevin over.”
Britney’s marriage to Kevin Federline
was her second one. She had previously
married long-time friend Jason
Alexander, but that marriage lasted
for a mere 55 hours.
Britney Spears and Kevin Federline,
who split in November 2006, after a
two-year marriage, have fought
constantly over the care of their two
sons.
Britney filed for divorce after just
two years of marriage citing
“irreconcilable differences.” At the
time, she had asked for both legal and
physical custody of both sons, with
Kevin getting reasonable visitation
rights.
However, things got complicated for
Britney because of a very public
breakdown that resulted in her mother
and Kevin Federline threatening to
take away the kids if she did not get
help.
Britney then completed a month-long
program at the Promises rehabilitation
centre in Malibu in February 2007.
Kevin Federline, who has two other
children from a previous relationship,
previously claimed that Britney
Spears, who recently completed a stint
in rehabilitation for alcoholism, was
too unstable to be a full-time mother.
At the moment, the couple share
temporary custody of the children.
A court hearing on the permanent
custody of the two children has been
set for August 17, 2007.
Meanwhile, allegations have emerged
against Britney over her parenting,
including a report that she tried to
get her oldest son’s teeth whitened.
Both US Weekly and Life & Style
magazines have printed cover stories,
highlighting disturbing reports from
inside sources who say that Britney’s
children Sean Preston and Jayden James
are at the centre of what US Weekly
calls ‘Hurricane Britney.’
Years ago, Britney had told an
interviewer that she wanted to be a
young mom. She got her wish at the age
of 24, giving birth to her first
child, son Sean Preston. Not long
after, her parenting was called into
question.
