Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu is
thrilled after co-hosting the
celebrity-studded event in Lisbon,
Portugal, held to announce the new
Wonders of the World. She returned
home with a lot of great, exciting
memories as well as hopes of making an
entry into Hollywood.
On stage, Bipasha Basu, wearing a
sari designed by her friend Rocky S,
hosted the event with Oscar winners
Ben Kingsley and Hilary Swank.
Hello magazine said, “While many were
anxious to learn who the winners were,
other observers had just one question
on their minds: who was Ben Kingsley’s
fabulously dressed co-host?”
Bipasha’s looks were reportedly
compared to Hollywood legend Sophia
Loren’s by Ben Kingsley and even Sir
Paul McCartney.
Bipasha, 28, former Ford supermodel,
told the media on her return to India,
“I was proud to announce Taj Mahal in
the new list of Seven Wonders of the
World. Everyone there were such
easygoing and warm people. We struck
great friendships and I want to
cherish this for a lifetime.”
She was all praise for her glamorous
co-host, Hollywood actress Hillary
Swank. “When my luggage didn’t arrive,
Hillary lent me an outfit for the
evening. But when my bags came and
Hillary saw my dress, she complimented
me saying this outfit suited me better
and that I looked really beautiful.”
An excited Bipasha announced, “Hillary
Swank and Sir Ben Kingsley are friends
for life. I plan to keep in touch with
them.” Bipasha’s interactions with Ben
Kingsley went beyond exchanging
pleasantries. She hinted that Kingsley
would help her with a major break in
Hollywood.
“Sir Ben,” said Bipasha, “guided me
how to get there. I already have a few
meetings lined up. Let’s see, if some
good role comes my way, I shall think
about it. I will certainly not do any
tidbit roles just to get into
Hollywood.” What arguably topped it
all was for Bipasha was the ardent
attention and a much-hyped,
much-denied kiss that she got from
Portuguese football ace Cristiano
Ronaldo at a post-event party.
Bipasha said of her encounter with
Cristiano Ronaldo: “Meeting him was a
dream come true. I’m a big fan of his,
and I was totally floored by the way
he kept showering me with praises all
the time. It was very flattering.
After the event, we went out clubbing,
and that was simply fantastic.”
It seems Ronaldo is a lover of
Bollywood, as is his mother, to whom
he introduced Bipasha. He played the
song Tujhse Naraaz Nahi Zindagi from
the movie Masoom, stored on his mobile
phone, to a pleasantly surprised
Bipasha, apparently to prove his
Bollywood credentials!
“I am planning to send across some
DVDs of my films and some other good
Hindi films to Ronaldo. He said he
wants to see them,” Bipasha revealed.
Bipasha elaborated on her so-called
kiss with Ronaldo: “Yes it is me (in
the picture). The picture was taken at
an opportune moment and taken out of
context and again it looks like a case
of irresponsible assumptions.”
Bipasha’s remark came after her kiss
with Ronaldo made headlines in papers
across the world on the morning of
July 11, 2007.
Digital Spy reported a source telling
Daily Star: “Cristiano and Bipasha
were all over each other. If he has
got a girlfriend, she was the last
thing on his mind. They were kissing
and he was being very tender, cupping
her face and staring into her eyes.”
Bipasha has been dating model and
Bollywood actor John Abraham for a
long time now. Said she of her
boyfriend: “John who’s shooting in
Pondicherry couldn’t watch me at the
Seven Wonders of the World Show. There
was no electricity where he was. But
I’ll make him see the entire
experience on a DVD.”
