Aishwarya Rai turns down role in Karan Johar film saying it’s sexy

Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has rejected an offer to act in Karan Johar’s next film. Her reason: She would feel uncomfortable doing the role she was offered, in which she is cast opposite two men – her husband Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham.

Aishwarya thinks the role that Karan Johar offered her was “too sexy and did not suit her married image.”

It is widely speculated that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s rejection of the role comes in the aftermath of her film Dhoom 2, in which her sexy, scanty clothing and kiss with co-actor Hrithik Roshan caused considerable discomfiture in the Bachchan household.

Now that she is a married woman, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, it is reported, will not accept such roles any more.

The movie in question, to be directed by Karan Johar’s assistant Tarun Mansukhani, was initially slated to star Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan in lead roles.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had at first apparently agreed to act in the film, yet to be titled, after hearing the screenplay. However, she changed her mind after the script and her role in it was narrated to her in detail.

Priyanka Chopra has bagged the role initially intended for Aishwarya Rai. Priyanka has previously worked with Abhishek Bachchan in Bluffmaster and she is doing another movie, Drona, with him.

However, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan does not seem averse to sexy roles when it comes to acting in foreign films. She has signed up to play the role of a sexy Indian detective in the sequel to the Hollywood movie Pink Panther.

In Pink Panther 2, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is cast opposite Steve Martin and Andy Garcia.

In sharp contrast to the Armaani-designed gowns she wore in Cannes, Aishwarya Rai is now seen dressed in modest sarees or salwar kurtas when making public appearances as Mrs Bachchan.

It is a very different story in the West. Demi Moore, married and mother of three children, did pole-dancing and stripped in her hit movie Striptease. Sharon Stone, Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman, and Salma Hayek have not been averse to acting in sexy roles after getting married and having children.

Back home, Kajol and, earlier, Sharmila Tagore in the 60s, did not suddenly turned into prudes post-marriage. Sharmila Tagore acted in Aradhana, where she plays an unwed mother, after marriage to Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. Kajol's first movie after marriage was Fanaa where she has acted in love-making scenes with co-star Aamir Khan.

Clearly, Pataudi and Ajay Devgan have had no issues with their wives being sexy on screen.
