Reliance Infocomm has upped the ante in the telecom tariff
wars with its One Nation tariff, offering STD calls at
dirt-cheap rates.
The Reliance One Nation STD costs just Re 1 a minute for any
STD call, anywhere in India. There is a catch, though: the new
tariff is only for the premium e-recharge priced at Rs 1100.
It was telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran who floated the idea
of a OneIndia tariff in telecom. However, none of the
state-owned telecom PSUs managed to get the idea off the
ground. The private sector peers did not match up either, till
the Reliance Infocomm walked off with the idea.
The high recharge value of Rs 1100 may make the offer less
attractive to many Reliance Infocom offers. But heavy STD
users are likely to be lured to the Reliance One Nation offer.
Other private sector telecom operators like Airtel and Hutch
are yet to comment on the Reliance Infocom One Nation plan.
Obviously, the intricacies of tariff-fixing will have to be
taken into consideration.
According to the Reliance Infocomm One Nation tariff, a call
from a Reliance phone to any landline or mobile phone anywhere
in India costs just Re a minute.
Reliance Infocomm wireless operations president SP Shukla said
that One Nation is his company's new year gift to its
subscribers.
The Reliance Infocomm Rs 1,100 STD e-recharge coupons will
have a talktime of Rs 750, and includes 1100 free SMS. The
coupon will be valid for a month. Unused airtime will not be
carried forward to the next month.
