October 18, 2006: The Dengue scourge is attaining serious levels. Even as the Delhi government is finding it too hard to check the menace, as many as 94 new cases were reported. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Health Directorate has come out with a revelation that as many as 433 dengue cases have been admitted at various hospitals in the state, including 14 new suspected cases in Mumbai's private hospitals.
In Delhi, as many as 94 patients showing symptoms of some mosquito-borne disease were admitted to various hospitals in the national capital. This has taken the total number of Dengue patients in New Delhi to 1731. The number seems to be seeing new highs day after day.
While the All India Institute of Medial Sciences (AIIMS) doctors have screened 810 in the past one day and kept 125 patients under observation at the premier institute, as many as 178 patients suffering from the disease are already under treatment at the institute.
Meanwhile down West in Maharashtra, as many as 433 patients with dengue are under treatment in various hospitals , including 14 new cases admitted in private hospitals in Mumbai. It remains to e seen how far the precautionary measures undertaken by the authorities would help in combating the spread of the virus.
Mumbai has so far seen 14 deaths due to Dengue, while five others died elsewhere in the state. Since April, 19 deaths have been reported in the state.
Incidentally, Maharashtra is fighting not just Dengue. Hospitals across the states have warned of malaria and other diseases. As many as 188 cases of fever, 14 cases of malaria and one suspected case of leptospirosis have been reported in Mumbai. However, with Dengue posing a deadly problem before the health authorities, checking the scourge is the current mission in front of the health authorities and the government.
