BY OUR AVIATION CORRESPONDENT
12 June, 2005: Continental Airlines has commenced a daily, non-stop
flight service between Bangor, Maine and its New York-area hub at Newark Liberty International Airport. The service is in addition to its existing daily non-stop service between Newark Liberty International Airport and Portland, Maine.
"Linking Bangor to our Newark Liberty hub will provide travellers with easy access to New York and convenient connections throughout Continental's global network," Continental's staff vice-president of Scheduling Bob Cortelyou said.
An Embraer ERJ-145 will operate with the round trip connecting Bangor and New York.
Continental Airlines is the world's sixth-largest airline and together with Continental Express and Continental Connection, it has over 3,000 daily departures throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia, serving 150 domestic and 130 international destinations.
Meanwhile, the carrier has said it would begin a third daily non-stop service from Bermuda to Newark, which is one of the most popular destinations in US. The new flight would begin service from Sunday (June 12, 2005) and would carry 12 first class passengers, apart from 112 economy class travellers.
It is scheduled to depart from Bermuda International Airport at 6.45 am and arrive at Newark Airport at 8.15 am. The flight will arrive back at 10.20 pm.
According to Frank Galan, senior director of the company, “This flight will add convenience to our business travellers to New York, where they can fly to business meetings in the New York area and be back in Bermuda the same day.”
