24 May 2005, Bangkok: Thai Airports Ground Services (TAGS) has decided to deploy the ELWIS cargo handling system in the free trade zone at the new airport in Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi Airport). This is first time that ELWIS will be implemented at an airport in the Asian market.
ELWIS covers the entire cargo handling process chain, from physical handling in the warehouse to the invoicing of handling services. In the free trade zone at Suvarnabhumi Airport, ELWIS will handle core processes related to incoming and outgoing goods, storage, documentation, consolidation/deconsolidation and the notification of transport partners.
New functionalities are being added to the system for TAGS, including a comprehensive risk management module which will make it easier to track sensitive goods. The use of RFID tags will also be supported, and numerous interfaces will be established to the Thai customs authorities and the airport information system, for example.
The ELWIS communication module will play a central role by acting as a message broker for connections among other systems.
The system will be handed over to the NBIA, which operates the new airport, in mid-September. The airport is scheduled to go into operation at the end of 2005. The first employee training sessions with the new system will start soon.
