BY A BUSINESS CORRESPONDENT
8 August, 2005: Bangalore, Karnataka, India, (Business Wire India):
Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the leading global service provider
for accelerating content and business processes online, announced the
appointment of Sanjay Singh to the role of Managing Director of Akamai India. Mr.
Singh will lead Akamai's India operations and further establish awareness for
Akamai's Internet content delivery and application acceleration services.
Mr. Singh brings an extensive background in international business to his new
role. In addition to serving as Managing Director of Akamai India, Mr. Singh will
also act as Akamai's Vice-President, Global Account Management. Mr. Singh
began his career with Akamai more than six years ago, during which time he has
held various positions of responsibility. While working in different roles within the
Company, Mr. Singh has consistently focused on customer acquisition, retention
and ensuring customer satisfaction.
“Sanjay's strong leadership skills and experience managing different
cross-functional teams within Akamai make him the ideal person to manage
Akamai's India operations in Bangalore,” said Paul Sagan, president and CEO of
Akamai. “I am very confident in Sanjay's ability to drive productivity and to
establish the India operation as a successful entity within Akamai's overall
business strategy.”
On accepting his new responsibilities, Mr. Singh outlined his vision of Akamai
India as the technology company best positioned to help usher in the broadband
era in India and unleash the largely untapped potential of the Internet for Indian
retailers, government and the media. Mr. Singh will be further charged with
solidifying Akamai's leadership position in the new `Demand Economy,' the rapidly
emerging market for broadband commerce, and the exchange and consumption of
information, data, and entertainment.
“I am very happy to have been chosen to lead Akamai's India operations. I
personally see the role of the Internet expanding to absorb new business and
revenue generation models, which will prove to have far-reaching and long-lasting
effects on the Indian economy. The biggest hurdle for businesses to effectively
leverage the Internet has been resolution of issues related to performance,
availability, reliability and security. Ensuring a consistently satisfying user
experience with the utmost attention to security is something enterprises today
can not ignore.”
Mr. Singh adds, “Akamai delivers a large percentage of the world's Web traffic,
and roughly 85 percent of the world's Internet users are within a single 'network
hop' of an Akamai server. Our global platform makes us the proven choice for
customers who are looking for a fast, secure and reliable method for conducting
business online.”
Worldwide, the purchasing behavior of hundreds of millions of consumers is being
determined by the Internet, and this economic force still lies largely untapped in
the Indian sub-continent.
