7 June, 2005: Passengers travelling on Air-Indias flights from Mumbai to international destinations in the West, viz. US, UK and Europe, can now check-in at Air-India Building, Nariman Point, Mumbai. The new advance check-in facility was commissioned by Mr V. Thulasidas, Chairman and Managing Director, Air-India, on June 6, 2005 in the presence of a large number of travel agents and mediapersons.
The first two passengers to check-in at the new city check-in facility, Ms Julie Lobo, a senior citizen, who is travelling by AI-111 to New York and Ms Prachita Bhore, a student, who is flying to London by AI-123 of June 7, 2005, were welcomed and presented their boarding cards by Mr Thulasidas. A 13-member group booked by SOTC for travel to London by AI-111 also checked-in at the new facility the same morning.
Air India is the first airline in the country to offer this service enhancement for the convenience of its passengers. The city check-in facility will be available between 1100 hours and 1800 hours on all days of the week for flights departing from CSI Airport, Sahar between 0001 hours and 0930 hours the following day.
There are two fully mechanised check-in counters, which will provide facilities similar to those available at CSI Airport. The passenger, or any member of the family or group who is travelling, can check-in on behalf of the family or group at the new city check-in facility by bringing along their baggage and all travel documents. Baggage will be accepted, all check-in formalities will be completed and boarding cards will be issued at the time of check-in.
Passengers can then report directly to the airport with their hand baggage if any, for immigration and customs 45 minutes prior to departure time for First and Executive Class and 90 minutes before departure of the flight for Economy Class passengers.
