Reviews of the SRK Don have just started popping up; the first review I saw using Google Blogsearch is by Karan, who shreds it to bits. I must say he has done a pretty comprehensive job of trashing it.

I am no Hindi movie buff; so unless really impressed or totally offended, prefer to stay away from movie reviews.

I am sure other reviews would soon be popping up all over the blogosphere. Update 1: Yes, Taran Adarsh's review is also online. He, too, says that the movie is disappointing and the new Don suffers from a weak script. Update 2: Rajeev Masand gives it 1 out of 5. Interesting point: He says Shah Rukh Khan plays the role with a campy flavour; with mannerisms and flourish that doesn't really work for him. His review of Don: the Chase... is here.

Interesting thing, Rediff's reviews too seem to indicate that new Don: The Chase Begins Again is a disappointment. Is it because there is an unwillingness to tamper with a classic? I think there are many original Don fans who wouldn't want to see the new Don because the character and the movie are too dear to them, they can't tolerate anyone screwing it up (in their view). Or is the movie truly a disappointment? The next few days should tell.

Meanwhile here is Karan and here is his review of Don: The Chase Begins Again.

Personally, I would say you should watch the movie anyway to see how it has turned out. That way you get to crib that it's not really good, and Farhan Akhtar and SRK make their money too. A nice non-zero sum game there.

Meanwhile, here is the trailer.

I wish more Bongs would read the gospels of the True One, Greatbong. GB is proudly bong, proud of all things Bong and that has to include Mithunda.

Every once in a while, forgotten or unknown nuggets of knowledge about the greatest actor to grace Indian movie screens - Mithunda -- is graciously offered to those starved of such knowledge. His collection of the most vulgar movie lyrics featured Mithunda movies over and over. As a fresher in college duirng the Dance Dance days, I can sure understand the fascination with the Mithun phenomenon.

And now, Greatbong unleashes the Greatbong fashion line, featuring the master disco dancer. Better you read it on his site. Here you go.

I remember those days when I was in Business Standard. The most boring news those days was that Apple is well on the way to its much expected death. Those were the post Jobs - pre Jobs days when he was in Next and Apple was blundering from one mistake to the next.

Seems everyone was pretty clear on the subject. On Peter Griffin's Zigzackly, I came across this which referred to a post by David Pogue in New York Times, essentially a collection of quotes on Apple from those horror days. Do read it, if you are young, and the impermanence of things is just an idea. If you are old, read it and get nostalgic, you old foggie. Don't think, like me, you will be alive till Web 6.0 is here.

Read it on Zigzackly.

Annie has her own take on the chadar. From a reminiscence on a trip to her maternal ancestral house, to concepts of swimwear, evening wear and societies that restrict access to people who don't follow the norms of the place - she reaches the British classroom where a female Muslim teacher refuses to take of her veil in language class.

"...I find myself recoiling from both ends of the extreme - the injunction to wear the veil, and the insistence on banning it..."

"... After all, a teacher's job is to teach and teach well. Besides, the burqa serves no purpose in the classroom (if it serves any purpose at all). If your religious beliefs prevent you from working properly, well... too bad. Make a choice...."

Yes to that. I still cannot come to terms with France's aggressive secularism as well as the veil. Just becuse, you know, something that identifies someone as a person so 'apart' makes me uncomfortable. Yes, the ghoongat makes me feel strange and trapped in some period drama too, and I want to run.

Together we shall ruin cricket

“Yes, it's true. There are plenty of crappy ideas and idiotic schemes on the anvil at both the ICC and the BCCI, so it only makes sense to team up. Both organisations are deeply committed to screwing up cricket as much as possible.”, said ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed, defying logic as usual.
