| SlingCatcher promises PC video for the telly |
At CES 2007, Sling Media introduces Slingcatcher that can display vidoe from a PC on a television. The Slingbox brains are back. This time it is a new media receiver product they plan to unveil at CES 2007, plus support for Windows Vista and Palm OS.
Sling Media which introduced its Slingbox two years ago now has an innovative product. If the Slingbox had grabbe TV content from satellites or cable lines and transmitted them to a remote laptop for the viewer, the new invention acts exactly opposite. The new SlingCatcher will take video content from a PC or notebook, or from a Slingbox, and display it on a television screen.
Come mid-2007, and the SlingCatcher will be available, at a cost of $200, Sling Media has announced. The SlingCatcher will support a wide variety of popular video, audio, and still image formats. For video and audio outputs, it includes composite video connectors, component video, and S-Video port, and an HDMI port. It contains an integrated Wi-Fi adapter and a 10/100 Ethernet port, according to the company. It will also support an optional hard drive for storing video data locally.
The company has also announced enhanced Windows Vista support and playback support for the Palm 700p. Accordingly, Slingbox users can watch TV from it on their handhelds, the company added.
Meanwhile, in another development, Sling Media and HP have announced an agreement to bundle Sling's player application into HP notebooks, in a feature called HP QuickPlay.Labels: Tech |
