| Bangalore terror attack averted |
Karnataka woke up to a terror threat on Friday morning.Police averted a terror strike at Bangalore with the arrest of a suspected militant from Kashmir. The arrest was made following a tip-off from central intelligence agencies.
The Bangalore police are currently interrogating the suspected militant, who was on his through Hospet to Bangalore. The suspect, Imran alias Bilal, who is in his early 30s, had come by bus from Hospet in Bellary district, according to the cops. Bilal, who boarded a Hospet -Bangalore private bus on Thursday night was arrested by the Bangalore Crime Branch sleuths near Jalahalli in the outskirts of the Bangalore in the wee hours on Friday. According to sources, Bilal had been staying in Hospet for the past five years. He was running a handicrafts shop there as a cover up for his subversive activities.
The police is questioning and examining Bilal’s phone calls to check whether he was in touch with people from foreign countries or other parts of the state. The police are working to find out whether he is part of a larger group. AK 47 rifle, 300 rounds of ammunition, 5 grenades, satellite phone, SIM cards and a detailed map of Bangalore with markings on it have been recovered from him.
The Bangalore police may seek the assistance of J&K police in interrogating Bilal, sources said. The poice have stepped up vigil every day and night.Labels: Society |
