Wizz Air to start new routes to Memmingen Munich West, Venice Treviso, Dusseldorf Weeze, Eindhoven

Wizz Air, the low-cost airline based in Vecses, Hungary, has announced launching new routes.

In a statement, Wizz Air says it will start new flights two times a week from Katowice Airport in Poland to Memmingen Munich West Airport in Germany starting from September 22, 2009, and from and Katowice Airport to Venice Treviso Airport in Italy twice weekly starting September 29, 2009.

The new services, to be raised to 3 flights a week from the winter schedule, will complement the routes already operated from Katowice Airport and bring the total number to 22, according to Wizz Air.

Wizz Air, the biggest budget carrier in Central Europe and Eastern Europe, says it also will launch new routes from Budapest, the capital of Hungary to Dusseldorf Weeze Airport in Germany Airport thrice weekly beginning September 21, 2009, and from Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, to Eindhoven Airport in the Netherlands 2 times a week from October 25, 2009.

In addition, Wizz Air said in the statement that it will continue to operate the service between Varna International Airport in Bulgaria and Luton International Airport in London all year round. The Varna-London flights are already on sale on Wizz Air’s website wizzair.com or through Wizz Air’s call centres.

According to Wizz Air, the Budapest-Dusseldorf Weeze flight is the 40th route and the Sofia-Eindhoven flight is the 41st route that the airline is launching in 2009.

Meanwhile, Wizz Air said it is expanding its base in Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport in Poland by adding a third aircraft, by starting new routes as well as by raising frequencies on a few of the existing routes.

The third aircraft for Gdansk Airport, a brand-new Airbus A320 plane, will start operations on December 17, 2009. The new aircraft will enable the carrier to launch new flights to Milan Bergamo Airport in Italy twice a week and to Eindhoven Airport in the Netherlands thrice a week, according to Wizz Air.

The airline says it is also is planning to raise frequencies on 6 of its 14 existing services.

Wizz Air’s fleet at present consists of a total of 26 Airbus A320 planes operating from 11 bases in Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine. It carried 6.5 million passengers in the last 12 months.
