President Obama is providing indirect economic stimulus to passengers traveling via WestJet airlines!

Calgary-based WestJet, one of McCarran International Airport’s only growing air carriers in 2008, announced that on behalf of the future visit to Canada by President Obama, it is offering a $50 discount on round-trip travel booked on the airline by midnight Thursday.

The passengers will be required to enter the promotional code ‘Obama’ to avail the discounts while booking. The discount will be offered to passengers who are travelling a round trip to Canada. Flights must be booked before midnight on February 19, 2009, MT, for travel between March 1 and March 31, 2009. Offer valid on all fares on regularly scheduled WestJet flights between Canada and the United States only. Discount cannot be used towards the purchase of a WestJet gift certificate or WestJet Vacations package. Valid for new bookings only.

Obama hasn’t announced a trip to Canada, but WestJet is inviting him to visit the company’s corporate headquarters.

“In the interest of stimulating our respective economies, we are pleased to offer this discount as our way of encouraging our American neighbors to visit us and for our Canadian guests to escape the cold winter to warmer destinations down south,” said Richard Bartrem, WestJet’s vice president of culture and communications, in a release issued today.

“In either direction, both economies will benefit.” he added.

WestJet is Canada’s leading high-value low-cost airline offering scheduled service throughout its 55-city North American and Caribbean network. Named one of Canada’s most admired corporate cultures in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008; WestJet pioneered low-cost flying in Canada.
