US Airways will launch daily, direct, year-round flights between Charlotte in North Carolina, the United States, and Honolulu in Hawaii, the United States, from December 17, 2009.
This will be the first non-stop flight between Charlotte and Hawaii, the 50th state of the United States of America.
Tickets from Charlotte to Hawaii are already available and roundtrip ticket is selling for $928, plus taxes and fees, on the airline’s website.
The daily Charlotte- Honolulu flight will take off from Douglas International Airport in Charlotte at 9.45 a.m. and touch down at Honolulu in Hawaii at 2.59 p.m. Hawaii time. On the return direction, the flight will leave Honolulu at 5.45 p.m. and reach Charlotte at 7:42 a.m. Charlotte time.
US Airways already flies to 4 islands of Hawaii from Phoenix, Arizona, the United States.
US Airways had earlier announced that it would start non-stop flights from Charlotte to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil using Boeing 767-200ER aircraft in December 2009.
In a statement, US Airways said it would use an internationally configured Boeing 767-200ER aircraft, which can seat seats 204 passengers, on the Charlotte-Honolulu route.
The Boeing 767-200ER plane that flies between Charlotte and Hawaii would have the airline’s Envoy sleeper seats in the first-class cabin, according to US Airways.
The Charlotte-Honolulu flight would take 8.5 hours.
Charlotte is the biggest hub for US Airways, which is based in Tempe, Arizona, the United States. The airline operates over 85% of Charlotte Douglas International Airport’s 655 daily flights.
US Airways, a member of the Star Alliance, flies to destinations in North America, Central America, the Caribbean, Europe as well as Hawaii.
Andrew Nocella, senior vice-president (marketing and planning) of US Airways, said in the statement that Hawaii was one of most popular vacation destinations of the airline. “US Airways,” according to Nocella, “is pleased to add another flight and give our customers on the East Coast easy access to Honolulu and the Island of Oahu.”
The Charlotte-Honolulu flight, he added, would be one of the longest flights out of Charlotte and was “timed to connect well with US Airways’ large network of East Coast and Midwestern cities.”
