Virgin Blue Airlines, the low-cost airline based in Australia, has been won the contract to operate passenger services from Perth in Australia to the Christmas Island and the Cocos Keeling Islands in the Indian Ocean, and also flights between the two territories.

Delta Air Lines, based in Atlanta, Georgia, the United States, and the Virgin Blue Airlines Group, headquartered in Brisbane, Australia, have announced jointly that their code-share flights will take off in January 2010.

  Virgin Blue, the low-cost airline based in Australia, has announced what it calls a “collection of new product enhancements that are aimed at enhancing its appeal with the business market.”

Soaring fuel bills have forced Australian airline Virgin Blue, owned by Richard Branson, to ground two more aircraft. A three per cent reduction in route capacity has brought overall cuts by the airline to 12 per cent since last month.

Virgin Blue, the low-cost airline of Australia, is considering charging passengers for checking in their baggage as a part of its bid to cope with high fuel costs.
