We heard almost 6 hours back that a hiker found some money and identification which, it turns out, belonged to the millionnaire aviator Steve Fossett who vanished in September 2007. Now we are hearing initial reports that the crash wreckage of Fossett’s plane has been found.
Update: Wreck confirmed as Fossett’s Bellanca

National Transportation Safety Board said that close to where the identity papers and cash was found, the wreckage of a small plane that might be Fosset’s was observed. However, there was no confirmation on this. This is possibly because there have been hundreds of small planes that have crashed in the area over the years – and a definite answer is not possible till the plane is properly identified.

Ever since Fossett diappeared an year back, there has been a massive search trying to locate the possibly crashed plane’s wreck. While initially there was hope that Fossett might be found alive, that hope faded quickly and the search continued for the plane.
At this moment, there are no photos or videos of the crash site available, but rescue teams are searching the Eastern California mountains where the wreckage was found furiously before a potential snowfall hampers operations.
Steve Fossett disappeared after he took off from Nevada in a single engine Bellanca Citabria Super Decathlon plane on what was possibly a pleasure flight. The Bellanca is a plane capable of aerobatics, and it had four to five hours worth of fuel.
The plane crash site is located about 10,000 feet high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Mammoth Lakes, California. For all we know, we might get some confirmation on whether it was the Bellanca of Fossett that is visible in the crash site in a few hours from now.
The hiker who was trekking in the area found two of Fossett’s aviation identification cards as well as around $ 1005 in cash scattered. Later, he found a sweatshirt that could have belonged to Steve Fossett.
Stever Fossett’s widow, Peggy Fossett, issued a statement which said, “I am hopeful that this search will locate the crash site and my husband’s remains.”
We are watching the internet and wires for any clues, confirmation or photos of the plane crash that could confirm it really was Steve Fossett’s plane that was observed.
