Spicejet AC fails midair; passenger faints

The air conditioning system of an Ahmedabad-bound Spicejet flight stopped working mid-air and a passenger fainted possibly because of the stifling air inside.

The passengers of the Spicejet flight had a testing time as the temperature inside the cabin went much higher than normal.

The shocking incident happened on late Monday aboard the Bangalore-Goa-Ahmedabad-Kolkata SpiceJet flight SG 806. While flying midair, the AC of the flight suddenly stopped working and the temperature inside the cabin began to rise. One of the passengers on the airline fainted because of suffocation and this caused the flight captain to divert the flight to Mumbai. The passengers were then offered medical help and the AC system of the airline was repaired.

Passengers say the AC had some problem even while the Spicejet aircraft was on the tarmac in Goa, but the crew assured them that the AC will function properly once the aircraft is airborne. But that did not happen.

According to an Indian newspaper, a passenger said, “After we complained, the SpiceJet authorities told us, ‘Hindustan mei rehna hai toh yeh sab sehna padega’ instead of helping us out.”

The passengers on the Spicejet flight who had to go through the harassing and harrowing experience are planning to ask for a compensation from the airline.

According a statement from Spicejet which was issued after the incident: “There was a medical emergency on the flight heading to Ahmedabad and medical assistance has been provided to the passenger. However, this situation was not related to the air-conditioning.”

Representatives of passengers appeared on television channels today talking about the problems they faced.

Several airlines are facing problems already due to weather related issues in North India which has led to innumerable delays and cancellations.
