Southwest Airlines, the low-fare airline headquartered in Dallas, Texas, the United States, has announced that the members of its Rapid Rewards programme can earn double credits on flights between September 17, 2009, and October 31, 2009.

Members of the Rapid Rewards frequent-flyer programme who register for the Double Credit plan, book a flight, and travel between September 17, 2009, and October 31, 2009, will get one bonus Rapid Rewards credit per one-way flight, irrespective of where they fly.

In a statement, Southwest Airlines said that, in order to qualify, members of the Rapid Rewards frequent-flyer programme have to register for the promotion scheme between September 17, 2009, and October 31, 2009. Registration has to be completed before the commencement of travel.  Reservations are to be booked between September 17, 2009, and October 31, 2009. Travel should be completed between September 17, 2009, and October, 31, 2009.

Though the Rapid Rewards credit is free, travel is subject to the United States government-imposed ‘September 11 security fee’ of up to $10 per roundtrip.

Southwest Airlines said that, by taking advantage of this promotion plan, members of the Rapid Rewards programme can accumulate up to 4 credits when travelling a single roundtrip from any city served by the carrier. Customers are entitled a free flight after 4 roundtrips during the promotional period (after getting a total of 16 credits).

More information on the Double Rapid Rewards Credits programme can be had from the airline’s websites www.southwest.com and www.southwest.com/rapid_rewards/rr_promotions

Ryan Green, Southwest Airline’s director of customer loyalty marketing, said in the statement that the carrier is “rewarding its loyal members by giving them an added benefit for flying with it.”

The airline’s Business Select Customers will especially benefit from the offer since they will get 2.25 credits for short-haul flights and 3 credits for medium-haul and long- haul flights, Ryan Green added.

The Rapid Rewards programme of Southwest Airlines lets members earn free flights to 67 destinations served by the carrier by flying 8 roundtrips in 24 consecutive months. Those who are not members of the Rapid Rewards plan can enroll at the website www.southwest.com/rrbonus to become a member and to get automatically registered in the promotion scheme, the statement explained.
