Paramount Airlines’ Kolkata, Guwahati, Agartala flights from Chennai launched

Chennai-based Paramount Airways has launched new services to eastern and north eastern cities from southern cities, from April 27, 2009.“From Monday onwards, the Paramount Airways would operate airbus between Kolkata, Guwahati, Agartala and many southern India cities,” said R.C. Das,
director of the airports authority of India, Agartala.

“The first airbus flight of the Paramount Airways from Kolkata landed at the Agartala airport on Monday afternoon and later returned to Guwahati,” Das was quoted as saying.

“The airline plans to cover all major cities in the western region by 2009 and start operations in northern India and remaining cities of north-eastern region from
2010 onwards,” IANS quoted an official of Paramount Airways, as saying.

“The best part of the Paramount Airways schedule was that eastern India passengers would find it more convenient to connect to other important destinations like Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Thiruvananthapuram, Tiruchirapalli, Bangalore, Kochi, and Hyderabad,” said the official.

After connecting the north eastern cities to south India, Paramount will look to connect main north Indian cities to south India.

“We have already saturated south Indian cities and now we want to leverage the infrastructure in the south by offering direct connectivity to other regions. With this, we will be having point-to-point passengers and those who travel via other cities,” Thiagarajan was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, reports say that Paramount is likely to launch its international services by 2010-2011, after fulfilling the mandatory 20 aircraft and five years of domestic service requirement.

Reports say that Paramount Airways is in talks to purchase 20 Wide-Bodied Aircraft, such as Airbus S.A.S’s Airbus A350 or Boeing Commercial Airplanes’ Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

To start with, Paramount will connect major European cities such as Rome,Vienna, London and Paris. It will then connect destinations like Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Seoul, after which it will launch flights to the US.

As of now, Paramount Airways’ domestic fleet consists of five Embraer aircraft, which includes two Embraer E 170 and three Embraer E 175. The airline has placed order of 15 more Embraer aircraft, 10 Embraer E 175 and five Embraer E 195.

Paramount Airlines launched its services in 2005, established by textile company, Paramount Group. Kotak Mahindra’s private equity fund India Growth Fund has a 10% stake in Paramount.

The airline claims that it has 27% market share in the southern India.
