A Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation report says that Pakistan International Airlines has announced its decision to increase the number of flight services from Leeds Bradford to Islamabad from two to three times a week, starting March 30, 2009.

Pakistan International Airlines made the announcement on March 20, 2009.

The airlines said that the increased number of passengers from Bradford and Yorkshire is the reason for an additional weekly flight.

It was only eight months before that the Islamabad- Leeds Bradfort flight services commenced. The Leed Bradford Airport had to,  inevitably, increase their services due to high frequency of passengers.

Tony Hallwood, Leeds Bradford’s commercial and aviation development director, said that in order to guarantee the success of the flight, the airport is working alongside local business tourism and cultural organizations.

“We are delighted that the significant demand from the Yorkshire region is now being satisfied with an additional weekly flight,” he added.

Pakistan International Airlines started its twice-a-week flight from Leeds-Bradford International Airport to Islamabad, Pakistan, from June 2, 2008.

The flights, running on Wednesdays and Saturdays, was welcomed by Leeds-Bradford airport, especially in the wake of the gap left by the end of the service to Yeadon airport by Shaheen Air International.

Tony Hallwood had then estimated that nearly 10,000 people would benefit from the Islamabad-Leeds Bradford flight service, per year, opening an avenue to increase the number of flights.

Pakistan International Airlines had also been excited about the new Islamabad-Leeds Bradford service.

Farooq Ibrahim, UK general manager for Pakistan International Aiport, had then been quoted as saying, “We look forward to introducing Leeds-Bradford on Pakistan International Airline’s international route network. We have worked closely with the airport team and are confident of success.”
