Midwest Airlines, based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the United States, has announced that it will add direct, seasonal service between Kansas City International Airport and Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, Florida; and between Milwaukee in Wisconsin and Fort Lauderdale in Florida from December 17, 2009, through April 19, 2010.

The Kansas City-Fort Myers service will vary, starting with 6 days a week and then going up to daily flights during the peak winter travel season. If bought 14 days in advance, fares will begin at $72 one-way for the Kansas City-Fort Myers flights.

On the Kansas City-Fort Myers route, Midwest Airlines will use an Embraer 170 aircraft with 76-seats.

Republic Airways Holdings, which bought Midwest Airlines and Frontier Airlines in 2009, had announced that Midwest Airlines would restore some of its flights from Kansas City International Airport that it had stopped in 2008.

Republic Airways Holdings said it also would add direct seasonal flights between Milwaukee in Wisconsin and Fort Lauderdale in Florida from December 17, 2009, through April 19, 2010.

The Milwaukee-Fort Lauderdale flights will be operated daily, and if bought two weeks ahead, the fares on the route start at $81 one-way.

For many years, Kansas City International Airport used to be some sort of a “hometown” for Midwest Airlines, and the airline served as a popular option after Southwest Airlines. However, Midwest Airlines was forced to reduce flights as well as jobs drastically in Kansas City and Milwaukee in the summer of 2008 when the prices of aviation turbine fuel reached a record high.

Republic Airways said in a press release that it aimed at bringing Midwest Airlines’ service back to the levels that existed in the first half of 2008, when the airline operated over 30 flights to about 20 cities from Kansas City International Airport.

On both the Kansas City-Fort Myers and the Milwaukee-Fort routes, Midwest Airlines will use the 76-seat Embraer 170 plane. The Embraer 170 aircraft comes with 2-by-2 all-leather seating, complimentary chocolate-chip cookies (baked onboard), and buy-onboard Best Care Cuisine or Best Care Cafe dining.
