Malaysia Airlines, the flag-carrier airline of of Malaysia, has reduced its fuel surcharge on several routes.
On the India-Kuala Lumpur route, the airline has trimmed its fuel surcharge by $50, leading to lower return air fares from destinations in India.
The cut in the fuel surcharge was a result of the prices of aviation turbine fuel coming down, Malaysia Airlines said in a statement.
The reduction in fuel surcharge also might have been prompted by severe competition from major airlines from the South East Asian region such as Singapore Airlines, aviation analysts say.
The fuel surcharge to Kuala Lumpur would now go down by 20% and to Australia and New Zealand by 37%.
On the Australia and New Zealand sectors, the fuel surcharge has been reduced by US $320 for a round trip.
For one-way journey to Australia and New Zealand, the fuel surcharge has been cut by up to US $120.
On the India-North America sector, Malaysia Airlines slashed fuel surcharge by US $185.
Now, the return airfare from India to Malaysia would begin at Rs 18,723, including taxes. With the fuel surcharge on the Australia and New Zealand sectors getting reduced by $320 for a round trip, the air fare on those sectors would start from Rs 41,446.
Malaysia Airlines also has done away with the fuel surcharge for all its flights into and out of Singapore. This move became effective recently along with the launch of Malaysia Airlines Value Fares – a four-category scheme that offers savings to those who plan their travel in advance.
The website www.malaysiaairlines.com says that a one-way economy-class ticket on the Singapore-Kuala Lumpur route, booked 21 days before the date of departure, is priced at $63.
According to Malaysia Airlines’ website, the Value Fares include MHlow, MHbasic and MHsmart, which offer up to 70% discount, 50% discount and 20% discount, respectively, for specified advance booking periods.
The fourth scheme, called MHflex, lets customers book anytime and make changes at no extra cost.
The Value Fares, according to Malaysia Airlines, are also available at the airline’s ticketing offices and travel agencies.
Malaysia Airlines, with has its home base at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, operates flights to South-east Asia, East Asia, South Asia, the Middle East and on the route between Europe and Australasia. The airline also flies from Kuala Lumpur to Newark and from Kuala Lumpur to Los Angeles.
