Malaysia Airlines fare cut on India- Malaysia, Bangladesh, Australia, New Zealand flights

Malaysia Airlines has announced a big cut of as much as 53% in fuel surcharge, resulting in a fare cut for India-Malaysia return flights. The return fare for Malaysia Airlines’ India-Malaysia flight will be Rs 16,528 (all-inclusive) from May 12, 2009.

The airline said that the fare cut was implemented, mainly, to attract customers during the holiday season.

Malaysia Airlines has also cut fuel surcharge up to Rs. 2,650 for flights to Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand.

At present, Malaysia Airlines operates flights from the Indian cities of Bangalore, Chennai, New Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad to several cities in Malaysia, including Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia Airlines has slashed the fuel surcharge on tickets from India to Australia and New Zealand by 27% – with fare for Australia now starts from Rs 37,846.

“The carrier is cutting fuel surcharge from India and Bangladesh by 53% to Kuala Lumpur and by 27% to Australia and New Zealand,” Azahar Bin Hamid, Malaysia Airlines’ regional manager of South Asia, said in a press release.

Malaysia Airlines has also reduced the fare on the India-North America sector by $106 for a round trip.

Meanwhile, Malaysia Airlines’ stimulus package, that was introduced in April 2009, has led to an increase in domestic bookings compared to the number of bookings in the previous year, the airline has said.

Malaysia Airlines’ managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Idris Jala was quoted as saying, “Our forward bookings in domestic bookings are better than last year by 30 percent.”

Malaysia Airlines, the flag-carrier airline of Malaysia, flies to destinations in East Asia, South Asia, South-east Asia, Middle East, Europe and Australia.

Under the MAS stimulus package, passengers could avail of discounts of up to 55 per cent to 35 cities worldwide, till May 3, 2009.

The deals offered under the MAS Stimulus package included Premium Match, Business Companion, Economy +, Weekend Getaway, MHFlex 1+1 , Kids Fly Free, and 80 per cent discount domestic/Asean.
