Seems Malaysian aviaton enthusiasts would have to wait a while before they get to see their own Airbus A80. Malaysia Airlines had placed an order for six aircraft, but at the request of Airbus Industrie, actual delivery of the plane has been delayed by eight months. That means the plane would make it to Malaysia only in August 2011, and not in January 2011 as previously expected.
Malaysia Airlines CEO told Dow Jones newswire that it was not them but Airbus which had requested delayed delivery of the A380s. Deliveries were originally scheduled to begin in January 2007.
Neither Malaysia Airlines not Airbus talked about the exact reason for the delay in deliveries.
In other news, there has been both bad and good news for the airline. The third quarter of 2009 has not been kind to Malaysia Airlines, and the airline was in the red, with a loss of 88.9 million dollars. On the other hand, it was recently awarded 5-star airline award for the fifth consecutive year by Skytrax of UK. They also received an award for the best cabin staff for the seventh time.
The on-going recession has been tough on almost all airlines, and even with a loss, things are not too bad for the Malaysia Airlines.
At this point, there is no information on when the inaugural flight of the first Malaysia Airlines Airbus A380 would take place, or about the flight route of the plane. We will keep you updated if we get any more info on it.
