Lufthansa signs code-share pacts Continental Airlines and JetBlue Airways

Deutsche Lufthansa, the flag-carrier airline of Germany, has entered into code-share agreements with the United-based airlines Continental Airlines and JetBlue Airways that will lead to seamless travel throughout the United States.

Continental Airlines is based in Houston, Texas, the United States.

The low-cost carrier JetBlue Airways is headquartered in New York, with its  main hub at New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport.

As a result of the pact with Lufthansa, code-share flights with JetBlue Airways will be available from JetBlue’s hubs in New York and Boston to 12 main cities in the United States – Austin, Buffalo, Tampa, Pittsburgh,  Raleigh, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Rochester, Fort Myers, Syracuse, New Orleans, and San Juan (in Puerto Rico).

As for Continental Airlines, code-share flights will be available from its hubs in Houston and Newark to 37 destinations in the United States.

A statement from JetBlue Airways said that, with the code-share pact with Lufthansa, it will expand its network across the Atlantic.

Now, JetBlue’s passengers from a dozen cities can connect between from JetBlue Airways and Lufthansa JetBlue’s hubs in John F Kennedy International Airport in New York and Boston Logan International Airport. JetBlue Airways is the biggest carrier in both these airports, which are also served by Lufthansa, the largest airline in Europe.

The new code-share agreement will give the customers of JetBlue Airways access to destinations in points in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa – including Dubai, Mumbai, Barcelona, Bangkok, Paris, Rome, Tel Aviv, Johannesburg, and many other cities.

In the statement, JetBlue that its passengers can enjoy seamless connections from their flights, arriving in Boson or New York, onto Lufthansa’s flights bound for Munich or Frankfurt in Germany, as also to cities beyond, through a network of European connections.

From the hubs of Continental Airlines in Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey and George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, code-share flights will be available to 37 cities in the United States.

Apart from this, Continental Airlines said in a press release, that the partnership with Lufthansa will increase further onward connectivity for trans-Atlantic connections from Frankfurt.

Passengers in India can now book all fights of Continental Airlines between the United States and Germany under a Lufthansa flight code.

Frequent fliers from Kolkata in India to the United States have been affected ever since Air India and British Airways withdrew direct flights between Kolkata and London.

With Heathrow Airport in London being a major hub for trans-Atlantic flights, passengers from India have opted to travel through Heathrow Airport. Now, with the code-share agreement in place, the passengers from India will find transit through Frankfurt convenient.

The code-share pact that Lufthansa has entered into with both Continental Airlines and JetBlue Airways will expand considerably transfer options for air passengers from India bound for the United States. Now, the US-bound Indian travellers can book flights from New York, Boston, Newark, and Houston.
