Kingfisher Airlines will start daily Bangalore-Dubai flights from June 25, 2009. The airline has been planning to start the Bangalore-Dubai service for sometime now, but decided to put its plans on the back burner keeping in mind the economic climate.
Vinay Nambiar, Kingfisher’s area manager for the UAE, Qatar and Oman, was positive about the project, “The conditions have improved now. It is a good time to connect Dubai and Bangalore with the summer travel season starting,” he said.
Kingfisher Airlines will use the A320 aircraft for the Bangalore-Dubai flight.
Departure time for the flight from Bangalore will be 6.30 PM and the arrival time at the Dubai airport will be 8.55pm local time.
The flight is further scheduled to leave from Dubai at 11.30 pm and land in Bangalore at 4.45 am.
“The early morning arrival will enable passengers to reach other destinations within India using our connections,” Nambiar said justifying the flight’s timings.
In spite of the current economic crisis, Kingfisher has been expanding its route network. After taking over Air Deccan in 2007, Kingfisher has had a total of 87 aircraft in its fleet.
As of now Kingfisher runs 438 flights daily to 72 destinations all over the world including India.
It also runs 27 direct flights from the IT hub, Bangalore to various parts in India.
In April 2009, Jet Airways started Chennai-Dubai flights.
Air India Express too has launched flights from Abu Dhabi to Tiruchirapally and Chennai.
Kingfisher Airlines also plans to operate flights to Abu Dhabi, within the UAE, and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain in the Gulf region, sometime in the future.
The airline also plans to start daily Kolkata-Dhaka flights, using an ATR 72-seater aircraft.
Meanwhile, reports say that Kingfisher’s passenger traffic fell by 18.32%, from 3.26 million to 2.66 million, in the first quarter of 2009.
Kingfisher Airlines is likely to post losses of Rs 350 crore in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2009, compared to a loss of Rs 200 crore that it posted in the same period in the previous year.
