JetBlue Airways has sought the approval of the government of Jamaica to start two new routes connecting Montego Bay in Jamaica with Boston as well as Orlando (Florida) in the United States. If the approval is obtained, the new services will be launched on both routes in the coming winter, JetBlue Airways, the low-fare airline headquartered in New York, the United States, said in a press release.

JetBlue Airways said it expects to commence the service between Montego Bay and Boston on January 9, 2010, and between Montego Bay and Orlando on February 8, 2010 – with a weekly flight to Boston and a daily flight to Orlando.

The airline added in the press release that it plans to launch new services to Baltimore on September 9, 2009; to Barbados on October 1, 2009; to Saint Lucia on October 26, 2009; and between New York and Kingston (Jamaica) on October 30, 2009.

Apart from the two proposed routes to Montego Bay, JetBlue Airways has plans to raise the frequency of flights on the existing route between its home base at John F Kennedy International in New York and Montego Bay during the winter holidays.

Scott Laurence, JetBlue’s vice-president of route planning, said in the press release that the carrier is considering offering as many as 11 flights a week between New York and Montego Bay – which he described as a “popular route” – in the winter.

JetBlue Airways, owned by JetBlue Airways Corporation, at present serves 56 cities with 650 daily flights, and operates over 71 flights daily to the Caribbean alone.
