Jet Airways has added daily flight services to Dubai from Chennai, from April 23, 2009. It has also launched another daily Mumbai-Dubai flight. After launching the Delhi-Dubai and Mumbai-Dubai services in August 2008, this is the first time Jet Airways will fly the Dubai-Chennai route on a daily basis.
Jet Airways’ flight number 9W 546 took off from Chennai international airport at 12:45 pm Indian standard time and arrived in Dubai at 3:45pm, and flight 9W 545 took off from Dubai at 4:30 pm and landed in Chennai at 10:45 pm.
Jet Airways will operate Boeing 737-800 aircraft for the Dubai-Chennai service.
Jet Airways has offered its fliers on the new routes, the opportunity to earn Double JPMiles and get a 25 per cent discount on Jet Award tickets till May 31, 2009.
“Jet Airways has already established itself as a formidable brand in the intensely competitive India-Gulf sector in a relatively short period of time, on account of the warmth of its service and quality of its in-flight product.” said Joseph Abraham, Assistant General Manager (Middle-East & Africa), Jet Airways.
“We are confident that the new Dubai-Chennai service will prove similarly popular with passengers,” he added.
Abraham also said that Jet Airways was focused on strategic growth that would meet travelers’ needs by offering the best schedules, and more choice of destinations for their convenience.
In addition to Dubai, Jet Airways also operates daily flights to Kuwait, Bahrain, Muscat, Doha and Abu Dhabi in the Gulf from several Indian cities.
The addition of these new flights have happened even as the airline is rationalising its other international flights.
In January 2009, Jet Airways discontinued its Mumbai to Shanghai and San Francisco flight.
Currently, Air India and Emirates run daily Chennai, Mumbai, and Delhi flights to Dubai. The sector has not been overtly hit by the slowdown in the economy, unlike other sectors, which is the reason it is attracting new flight operators.
