NIIT Technologies Limited, the leading software company based in India, has signed a multi-million pound, three-year deal outsourcing deal with its existing client British Airways.

NIIT Technologies services customers in North America, Europe, Japan, Asia and Australia, besides customers in India.

The information technology (IT) giant offers services in application development and maintenance, enterprise solutions including managed services and business process management to organisations in the financial services, transportation, retail, manufacturing and government sectors.

The deal signed with British Airways, NIIT Technologies said in a statement, is one of the largest ever to be signed by the software major. “The deal enables the support and testing of business critical applications across various business areas of the global airline British Airways, and follows a 12-year relationship between the two companies,” the statement added.

According to the pact, NIIT Technologies will provide support and testing of critical business applications across various business areas of British Airways, the national airline and flag carrier of the United Kingdom.

It may be noted that the NIIT Technologies-British Airways deal comes at a time when the global airlines industry is going through hard times on account of the enormously high prices of aviation turbine fuel as well as global economic recession.

Media quoted Mike Doyle, Support Manager (IT Applications) of British Airways, as saying: “British Airways has also taken up a cost mitigation exercise with its global partners to reduce costs and maintain competitiveness. NIIT Technologies is a reliable partner and British Airways is pleased to continue its long-term relationship with it. NIIT Technologies has proven to be a flexible, reliable partner evolving with our business and the technology trends within the airline industry.”

On the huge deal, Ravi Pandey, Head of NIIT Technologies in the United Kingdom, remarked: “’We are proud that British Airways has continued to repose its faith and commitment in NIIT Technologies. NIIT is committed to working in partnership with British Airways towards its success and has demonstrated that for over 12 years.”

“The recent No.1 ranking in the Black Book of Outsourcing 2008 in the Travel Industry survey, Pandey added, “confirms that NIIT Technologies as a global leader in this sector. We aim to deliver world class service for all our clients.”
