flydubai, the low-cost airline based in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is starting flights between Dubai and Doha, the capital of Qatar, twice daily from October 18, 2009.
This will be the first destination of the government-owned flydubai, also the first low-fare carrier of Dubai, to a member-country of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
On the new Dubai-Doha service, flydubai is offering a one-way fare starting from Qatari Riyal (QR) 165 that includes all taxes plus a piece of hand baggage weighing up to 10 kilogrammes.
Tickets can be bought from flydubai’s website flydubai.com or the call centre in Dubai (+9714-3010800), or from travel agents.
Both flights from Dubai to Doha and back are targeted at peak travel times. And, the Dubai-Doha route is one of the busiest air routes within the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Flights FZ001 (the morning flight) will take off from Dubai at 7:30 a.m. Flight FZ007 (the evening flight) will depart from Dubai at 8.20 p.m.
Flight FZ002, the morning flight, will take off from Doha at 8.30 a.m. Flight FZ008, the evening flight, will leave Doha at 9:20 p.m.
The flying time between Dubai and Doha is 1 hour.
There will be 189 economy-class seats on the plane.
Gaith al-Gaith, chief executive officer of flydubai, said a statement that the passengers have the option to buy checked-in baggage in advance at a cost of QR40 for the first piece of baggage and QR100 for the second piece, weighing up to 32 kilogrammes, but subject to availability.
Passengers on the Dubai-Doha flight can select their seat by paying QR5 and can have positions with additional legroom by paying QR50.
Also, passengers can change bookings for a small fee, besides any difference in the fare. They can buy food and drink on board, Gaith al-Gaith said in the statement, adding that the “flydubai model is simple,” with customers having to pay only for the services they wish to receive.
flydubai plans to operate services to 12 destinations before the end of 2009, according to Gaith al-Gaith. These destinations include cities in India and Pakistan and certain other countries, all of which are within a flying time of 4 hours from Dubai.
flydubai, set up by the government of Dubai in March 2008, started its operations on June 1, 2009. It is based at Dubai International Airport.
At present, flydubai flies to 6 destinations: Amman (Jordan), Alexandria (Egypt), Beirut (Lebanon), Djibouti (Africa), and Damascus and Aleppo (Syria).
The airline claims that it has flown 100,000 passengers in its 4 months of operations.
