Emirates Airline will introduce its double decker Airbus A380 aircraft on its Bangkok, Thailand and Toronto, Canada routes starting June 1, 2009 from Dubai.
The service to Toronto, Canada will see the Airbus A380’s debut in the country. “Our Toronto route has had consistently high demand since the thrice weekly service was launched two years ago. The Airbus A380 will allow Emirates to address some of the unmet need in Toronto while on Bangkok, the A380 will help support the Thai government ’s new tourism initiatives, ” said Emirates President Tim Clark. The change on both services will provide a capacity increase of about 30 per cent for each route, it is expected.
The new aircraft routes to bangkok and Toronto also offer strengthened support for popular transit markets with the Emirates A380 now servicing London Heathrow, UK tourists travelling to and from Thailand can have an A380 experience while for Canada, the change means increased access to Dubai and the Gulf region, he added.
Emirates A380 flights to Toronto depart Dubai at 9:55 hours, arriving in Toronto at 15:45 hours. The flight departs Toronto at 21:40 hours arriving in Dubai at 18:35 hours on the next day. Services are offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Meanwhile, flights to Bangkok will depart Dubai at 9:40 hours, arriving in Bangkok at 19:00 hours. It would be departing Bangkok at 21:25 hours, arriving in Dubai at 00:30 hours the next day. The Bangkok service operates daily.
Emirates, in the meanwhile, has also said that effective June 1 it will operate five Airbus A380s on routes such as Dubai-London Heathrow (daily), Dubai-Sydney/Auckland (daily), Dubai Toronto (three times weekly) and Bangkok (daily). The airline will accept another four A380 aircraft into its fleet in the financial year of 2009-2010 and has announced it will introduce services to Seoul in December.
The Airbus A380 is the world’s largest aircraft. Emirates is one of the airlines which have taken to the superjumbo in a major way – the other one being Singapore Airlines.
