The new double-decker Airbus A380 from Emirates has touched down in San Francisco and Los Angeles. This is part of a number of exclusive tours of the aircraft that have been planned for the United States. An Emirates spokesperson said that each city offered a two-hour flight, hosted by Emirates, San Francisco and Los Angeles International Airports following the inaugural launch of the aircraft from Dubai to New York’s JFK Airport on August 1, 2008.
ccording to Adel Al Redha, Emirates Executive Vice President, Engineering and Operations, “Emirates is very confident these flights are a symbol of a strong future relationship between Emirates and the state of California and we are very appreciative of the support we receive from our many friends here at local, state and federal levels.” Meanwhile, a message from California State Govenor Arnold Schwarzenegger, said that the event was not only a momentous occasion for Emirates and for California, but is also an historic moment in the history of aviation.
As part of the occasion, guests were offered an opportunity to tour the Emirates A380 aircraft which features 489 seats in a three-class configuration — 14 first class seats, 76 business class seats and 399 economy class seats. On-board amenities including the airline’s new Shower Spas and onboard lounges, as well as premier service aboard the airline industry’s most fuel efficient aircraft were showcased.
The Emirates A380 aircraft is powered by Engine Alliance’s GP7200 engines. The A380s can fly up to 7,456 miles on a full load, has 13 tons of bellyhold capacity for cargo and is able to offer better fuel economy per passenger mile than most hybrid passenger cars.
