Delta Air Lines plans to launch weekly services between Monrovia’s Roberts International Airport and New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport, via Dakar, Senegal.The weekly flight is expected to be launched from June 9, 2009, pending government approval.
The Delta Airlines New York-Monrovia flight will be the sole direct service from the US to Liberia.
Delta’s commercial manager for West and East Africa, Bobby Bryan, said, “Delta is the only carrier operating scheduled service between the United States and Africa, and we are excited to be adding Liberia to our African network.”
He also said that Delta’s New York-Monrovia service will also improve commercial ties and tourism opportunities between the US and Liberia.
Delta Air lines will use a Boeing 757-200 ETOPS with up to 158 Economy seats and 16 BusinessElite seats, for the new service.
The weekly Delta Air Lines DL213 flight, from Monrovia to New York via Dakar will run weekly on Tuesdays.
It will depart from Monrovia at 10.00 a.m., arrive at Dakar at 12.05 p.m. It will leave Dakar at 1.25 p.m. and reach New York at 5.40 p.m.
The Delta Air Lines DL212 flight from New York to Monrovia via Dakar will run on Mondays.
The flight will take off from New York at 4.15 p.m. and reach Dakar at 4.40 a.m., the next day.
It will leave Dakar at 6 a.m. and reach Monrovia at 8.05 a.m.
Currently, Delta Airline operates in nine cities in seven African countries: South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Ghana, Senegal and Liberia.
Cranking up its presence in Africa, Delta Air Lines will launch non stop flights from Atlanta to Johannesburg, South Africa, four times a week, from June 1, 2009.
The airline will also start services between Atlanta and Nairobi, Kenya, from June 2, 2009.
